Avira anti-virus solutions certified for SAP

Safety risks by SAP NetWeaver applications are frequently underestimated
Tettnang, 9 September 2008 – Accolade from SAP: Avira AntiVir Virus Scan Adapter for SAP NetWeaver has received certification as Business Software Specialists for Windows and Sun Solaris. Avira is the first provider able to offer certified protection software for SAP and protects SAP business applications from malware and their unwanted propagation. 
Avira regards the certified solution as a fundamental part of their product range for enterprise customers because the virus protection, especially developed for SAP NetWeaver, achieves an important contribution in safeguarding smooth business transactions. In the past hackers have been able to find weak points in SAP applications and miss-use them for infiltrating malware. Normal daily work can be dangerous, for example when documents are processed by marketing staff, partners or employees in the office at home this is very often outside the protected infrastructure. It is not uncommon that the documents come back infected with a virus – this can lead to a fatal domino effect, especially with databases and applications used companywide such as SAP NetWeaver.
Stefan Schiffert, CTO at Avira, states: "Virus protection today is a compulsory program in all companies. It is indispensable because networking and the internet are, and will remain, the central gateway for malware. Dangers do not only lurk in the areas of surfing or e-mails but also with portal systems which are linked to the internet. It is not only criminal onslaughts which make the use of anti-virus software meaningful. An example of this can be seen in the HR-module from SAP for "eRecruiting": Applicants upload attachments during the online process which could be infected with a virus. If at this point there is no virus scanner then the virus-infected files could access the database and are then processed internally allowing malware to establish itself in the company network".
As with all products from Avira, the virus protection for SAP NetWeaver characterises itself with an extremely high detection rate: Avira regularly takes first places in independent tests. The solutions have virtually no administration overhead, the software preserves system resources and barely affects performance. Avira AntiVir Scan Adapter for SAP NetWeaver Version 1.1.3 is licensed based on the size of the company and starts for companies having up to 100 employees. The costs per year is € 3000 which includes all updates, upgrades and 14 days installation support.
