IT security expert presents virus protection for Linux
Tettnang, 26 August 2008 – Avira will travel with Novell through eight cities located in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The security expert Avira has state-of-the-art products for Linux systems. Out of the ten million currently known digital threats, only 1,700 attack Linux/UNIX based computers, even though there are just as many vulnerabilities in Linux as there are in Windows. The explanation to this phenomenon is straightforward: “Windows is by far the most popular system and is compatible with many other programs. Exploits that form an attack on Windows vulnerabilities have a much larger opportunity to cause damage and the efforts are worth it for the hackers”, explains Rainer Witzgall, Executive Vice President of Avira. “However, this does not necessarily mean that Linux networks do not need virus protection. On the contrary, systems that are used as mail servers pose a great threat. Without being infected themselves, they can distribute malware to other networks. In order to prevent a harmful malware from infecting a target system, protection needs to be implemented at the gateway interface.”
The full-day events raise current issues on Linux, Collaboration, Identity and Security as well as Systems Management. The tech lounge will provide a practical area, where Avira and the other participants will demonstrate their solutions. All visitors will receive an evaluation DVD with the Avira products for evaluation purposes. For more information visit: http://www.novell.com/de-de/events/local/tour/index.php
