Tettnang, 24 September 2009 – Reports have appeared in the media about a virus known as “Dogrobot”, which is particularly problematic in China’s Internet cafés. This family of viruses is able to bypass the security hardware frequently used in Internet cafés, such as hard disk recovery cards, which are designed to restore the original, pristine system status at the press of a button, but which obviously have a vulnerable spot. It is said that “Dogrobot” robot has already caused damage amounting to billions.
Avira recognizes most variations of this malware through generic detection, i.e. even without the latest updates to the virus definition files, and warns users of the threat of an infection. Other known variants of the virus are also recognized by name by the security solutions from Avira: the over 100 million users worldwide can rest assured that they are protected.
